Gentle and Safe Tooth Extractions
Schedule a Tooth Extraction Consultation
When a Tooth Extraction is Needed
- Baby teeth with abnormal root formation that prevent proper eruption of permanent teeth
- Teeth with extensive decay or infection that risk damage to surrounding teeth or bone
- Orthodontic corrections requiring space for proper alignment
- Impacted or problematic wisdom teeth
- Teeth damaged beyond repair from trauma
Understanding the Tooth Extraction Procedure
When a tooth extraction is required, the procedure may be performed during a regular appointment or scheduled as a separate visit. Each tooth is held in place within a socket by a ligament. To remove a tooth, the socket is gently expanded, and the ligament is carefully separated to allow the tooth to be removed safely.
Although the procedure is usually quick, patients should communicate any concerns or preferences for sedation prior to the extraction.
After extraction, neighboring teeth may shift, which can affect chewing or jaw joint function. To prevent these complications, replacement options such as a dental bridge or dental implant are often recommended.
Recovery and Aftercare
- Biting gently on gauze to control bleeding
- Taking over-the-counter pain relievers as needed
- Avoiding hard or crunchy foods until healing progresses
- Following instructions for oral hygiene and avoiding disturbing the extraction site
