Dr. Swain was born and raised on Long Island, New York. In 1992, she received a BS in Biology from Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York. She attended the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in Buffalo and graduated in 1996 with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery, with a minor in pediatrics. After graduation, Dr. Swain completed a general practice residency at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, Long Island. There she practiced under specialists in endodontics, pediatrics, and oral surgery.

Dr. Swain was in private practice in Buffalo for four years. She married in 2000 and moved to Atlanta in 2001. Dr. Swain joined Cumming Dental Associates in 2002.
